General Rules and information:

1. Categories and age divisions will be danced in the order in which they appear in these rules, with Amateur & then Challenge in each Category.

2. Special Awards will be given for Team Spirit, Largest Team, Farthest Traveler.

3. When calculating age divisions, add the ages of all members and divide by the number of dancers.   Number is rounded down (ex. 14.9 would dance in the 10 - 14 age division)

4. Deductions of 2 points from the total score will be taken for any of the following:

Less than minimum number of dancers, Exceeding Time Limit for Category

Rules Violation (i.e. body contact in Standing Line)

5. Awards

Amateur Age Champions: (1st, 2nd & 3rd Place in each age division)     Awards

Amateur Category Champions: (highest score in each category)     Awards

Amateur Junior Champion: (highest score of all teams 14 & under)     Award

Amateur Senior Champion: (highest score of all teams 15-29)     Award

6. The top scoring Amateur & Challenge teams in the qualifying categories will receive an invitation to participate in the C.C.A. Showdown of Champions.  For info, visit www.ccaclog.com.

7. Team Divisions:

There will be 2 (two) Divisions of competitions for teams - Amateur and Challenge:

Amateur:        This team division is open to teams never having earned first place in any past clogging competitions.   No more than one challenge dancer is permitted to dance in any Amateur Team Routine.  This will be monitored and disqualification may result.

Challenge: This team division is open to any team, regardless of past winnings.

8. Registration Deadline for teams is Oct. 3, 2008.   There will be NO team registration at the door.   Solos and Duo/Duets may sign up at the event but will not be listed in the event program.


 

TEAM COMPETITION

Entry Fee $12 per dancer per category danced

TEAM AGE DIVISIONS:

6 & under, 7-9, 10-11, 12-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30 & over.

STANDING LINE

*     Minimum of five (5) dancers.

*     The dance must start, be performed, and end in the same line. The dance must be choreographed for one but danced by many.

*     May not expand or contract your formation.

*     Precision footwork and body mechanics is required at all times.

*     No progressive dance step or arm movements.

*     No dancer may have body contact with any other member at any time.

*     Time limit is three (3) minutes.

OPEN LINE

*     Minimum of five (5) dancers.

*     Dance must be performed in some form of line at all times. You may bend, rotate, pass through and touch the floor. No dancer may have body contact with any other member at any time.

*     Time limit is three (3) minutes.

PRECISION

*     Team must have at least eight (8) dancers. This is a couple oriented dance.

*     Dancers must be in step with each other. Precision footwork must be performed.

*     There are no figure requirements, however figures are highly encouraged.

*     Instrumental music is required.

*     Time limit is four (4) minutes.

HOEDOWN

*    Team must have at least eight (8) dancers. This is a couple oriented dance.

*    Dancers should never be intentionally in step with one another.

*    Freestyle or hoedown footwork should be performed.

*    There are no figure requirements, however figures are highly encouraged.

*    Traditional music MUST be used.

*    Time limit is four (4) minutes.

ARTISTIC EXPRESSION

*     Minimum of three (3) dancers.

*     Routine must carry out a theme.

*     Emphasis on showmanship, creativity, choreography, and execution of routine.

*     Props are allowed.

*     Time limit is five (5) minutes for the performance of routine and (5) minutes for set- up and take- down of props.

EXHIBITION

*     Minimum of five (5) dancers.

*     Seventy (70%) of the dance steps must be clogging steps.

*     Other types of dance forms are highly encouraged.

*     Routine must include various formations, progressive step changes. Lifts and pull throughs are allowed.

*     Any type of music is permitted.

*     You may not re-dance this routine in any other category.

*     This is not an artistic expression category. Only hand props are allowed.

*     This routine must exhibit elements from more than one clogging category: (i.e. Precision, Standing

*     Line, Moving Line, Hoedown, Artistic Expression).

*     Time limit is three (3) minutes.

TRADITIONAL LINE

*     Team must have at least 5 dancers - any combo M/F.

*     Figures are not allowed.

*     Footwork should be traditional style steps - drag slide clogging. Line dance is a category whose choreography is for one person, but danced by many, no progressive step changes are allowed. Only your feet may touch the floor.

*     No hand or head choreography. All dancers must face the same direction at the same time. Dance must start from, and end in set line(s); no clogging on or off stage. No dancing as couples; no Rise & Shine or individual freestyle dancing. No trading of lines, twisting of lines, passing through lines, or bending of lines. No rotation, V’s or column formations, or interaction of lines may be done. No body contact is allowed. No moves that appear to be a show or stage production. NO dance lifts, pull throughs, splits, tosses, leaps, cartwheels, or flips.

*     Traditional, Country or Bluegrass music only, with or without vocals.

*     Dance must NOT be called or cued.

*     Time limit is three (3) minutes.

A CAPELLA TEAM - Offered in Challenge Only

AGE DIVISIONS: 9& under, 10 - 14, 15 - 20, 21 - older

*     Minimum of Five (5) dancers, any mix m/f.

*     No costume requirements.

*     Judges will not see dancers -- only hear them.  Judging based solely on rhythm, sound, variety of sounds and clarity.

*     Any percussive dance steps may be used.    Hand claps, yells and non step percussion is not allowed.  All sounds must be produced by the feet.

*     Progressive step changes ARE allowed.   One dancer may start a step and have others join in.

*     Time limit is three (3) minutes.

SMALL TEAM

*     Minimum of three (3) dancers.

*     You may not re-dance this routine in any other category.

*     This is a precision category, meaning dancers must be in step.  However, progressive change (domino or ripple effect) with steps and/or hand moves is allowed.

*     Movements may bend, rotate, pass through, split, trade, make multiple figures and formations of any configuration and interaction among dancers is allowed (arm swings, circles, etc)

*     Dance lifts, pull throughs, splits, tosses and leaps are allowed.   No unassisted cartwheels or flips are allowed..

*     Dance must NOT be called or cued.

*     Time limit is three (3) minutes.

SOLO COMPETITION

Entry Fee $12 per dancer per solo category danced

SOLO – FREESTYLE (AMATEUR AND CHALLENGE)

AMATEUR SOLO AGE DIVISIONS:

6 & under, 7-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-20, 21 & over

CHALLENGE SOLO AGE DIVISIONS:

6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19-21, 22-30, 31-45, 46 & over

Amateur – This solo division is open to dancers who have not won first place

Challenge- This solo division is open to any dancer, regardless of past winnings. It is possible for a dancer at a

competition to dance in both Amateur and Challenge.

*     Judging will be based on dancing in a line, rise and shine and/or moving in a circle.

*     Freestyle is defined as the dancer’s self-expression using any style or combination of styles in performing their art.

*     Dancers may combine drag-slide clogging with buck.

*     Males and females will not compete against each other.

*     The festival director will select music.

*     Callbacks may be necessary.

TRADITIONAL SOLO

(This is not a C.C.A. Qualifying category)

TRADITIONAL SOLO AGE DIVISIONS:

8 & under, 9-12, 13-14, 15-18, 19-30, 31 & over

*     Judging will be based on dancing in a line, rise and shine and moving in a circle.

*     Dancers MUST perform drag-slide clogging , heel-toe buck dancing or flatfooting.   NO double-double, Irish, tap or modern percussive dance steps allowed.

*     Males and females will compete against each other.

*     The festival director will select music.

*     Callbacks may be necessary.

A CAPELLA SOLO

(This is not a C.C.A. Qualifying category)

A CAPELLA SOLO AGE DIVISIONS:

8 & under, 9-12, 13-14, 15-18, 19-30, 31 & over

*     Males and females compete together for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place honors.

*     Each dancer will be given a 20 second rise and shine.   Judges will not see dancers -- only hear them.  Judging based solely on rhythm, sound, variety of sounds and clarity.

*     Any percussive dance style may be used.

*     A Capella Champions may enter the Challenge Overall Solo Dance-Off.

CHOREOGRAPHED SOLOS NEW CATEGORY!

Entry Fee $25 per soloist

Choreographed Solos only will be danced Saturday afternoon as part of the Kings Island World of Dance Competition in the Belevedere Center, all other solos will be danced Sunday.

CHOREOGRAPHED SOLO AGE DIVISIONS:

8 & under, 9-12, 13-14, 15-18, 19-30, 31 & over

*     Any Clogging Steps are allowed

*     Emphasis will be on the sound and rhythm and can be choreographed to any type of music.

*     Male and Females will compete against each other.

*     Dancer must use entire stage showing the ability to move with precision footwork.

*     Stage props are allowed but must be incorporated into the choreography of the routine.

*     Time Limit is one minute thirty seconds.

DUO/DUET COMPETITION

Entry Fee $15 per dancer/$30 per Duo/Duet

DUO/DUET/SHOW DUO/DUET AGE DIVISIONS:

8 & under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-18, 19-25, 26 & over

DUO / DUET :

*     Duo means dancers are of the same sex.

*     Duet means one male and one female dancing.

*     Dance must be precision oriented. No rise and shine or acrobatics.

*     Dancers should dance as a couple; hands joined as much as possible and use plenty of arm/couple turns.

*     Duo must use entire stage to show ability to move as unit.

*     Any type of music is allowed.

*     Time limit is one and one half (1 1/2) minutes

SHOW DUO/DUET:

*     Two (2) dancers – any combination.

*     75% of the routine must contain clogging steps.

*     Dancers must use the entire stage showing the ability to move as a unit.

*     Costumes and choreography must coordinate with the theme of the routine.

*     Any type of music is allowed, bit mist also coordinate with the theme of the dance.

*     Props are allowed but must be incorporated in the choreography of dance.

*     Time limit is two (2) minutes and this includes stage set- up and take- down.

SHORT DUO/DUETS

*     Two (2) dancers – any – combination.

*     Judging will be based on dancing as a couple in a line and a rise and shine.

*     Couple interaction is strongly encouraged.

*     Each couple will be given 48 beats at the beginning to rush the judges, 48 beats to rise and shine & 48 beats at the end.

*     Callbacks may be necessary.

*     Festival Director will select the music.
