General Rules and information:

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Failure to comply with these rules could result in disqualification.
Entries must be postmarked or faxed no later than May 12, 2008 for inclusion in the event.
Types of Entries
Types of entries are Solo, Duet/Trio (Duets and Trios compete against each other) Small Group (4 to 9 dancers), Large Group (10 tor more dancers).
Time Limits
The time limit for all Solos and Duet/Trio entries are three minutes (3:00), Small and Large Group entries are four minutes (3:00), PRODUCTION category only has a time limit of four minutes (4:00). A deduction of one half point (.5) for every 10 seconds or portion thereof in excess of the time limit will be made.

8 & Under, 9 - 11, 12 - 14, 15 - 18, 19 & Over
Solos/Duet/Trio
5 & Under, 6 - 8, 9 - 11, 12 - 14, 15 - 18, 19 & Over
Event Schedule
Dance competition will be held in the Belvedere Ballroom at Kings Island Resort. Dressing room is adjacent. Doors open at 9:00 am and registration and competition packets may be picked up at that time. A Studio/Team directors meeting will be held at the podium at 9:50 am to introduce the judges and staff and the competition will begin promptly at 10:00 am.  A schedule, directions and additional info will be mailed to you the week before the event.
Videotaping
Video Taping is permitted, unless a team requests that no videoing of their choreography occur.
Music
Each entry must furnish its own music marked with the contestant number on a good quality cassette tape or CD. It is recommended that you bring a second copy as a backup in the event of malfunction of original. Music will be presented to the sound tech two routines before you take the stage and may be checked for sound and speed through headphones.
Categories
The following dance categories will be offered:
All Male: A dance of any category with all male dancers. Minimum 4 dancers.
Ballet: Routine should contain ballet technique while incorporating classical movements.   No acrobatic tricks allowed.
Clogging: Routine should contain clogging technique.  No acrobatic tricks allowed.
Ethnic: Routine including an ethnic type of dance, i.e. Spanish, Hawaiian, African, Irish.
Hip Hop: Routine consisting of primarily Hip-Hop technique. Appropriate music is demanded.
Jazz: Routine that consists primarily of jazz steps.
Lip-Sync: Mimicking singing to an appropriate piece of music.
Lyrical: Routine should utilize contemporary style to show extension, balance, as well as showing an interpretation of the music.
Pom-Pon: A dance done incorporating the use of pom-pons. This will be judged on precise and definite moves, dance steps, and choreography.
Production: A dance done that portrays a specific theme.
Song & Dance 50% of this should be song, and the other 50% some recognizable style of dance. A cordless microphone will be provided. You may not bring your own equipment.
Tap: Routine should contain tap technique. No acrobatic tricks allowed.
Judging / Awards
Contestants will be judged by a panel of professional dance judges. Platinum 1st Place, Gold 1st Place, and Silver Awards will be decided by a predetermined range of points for each place. There may be multiple winners in each age group and category. Score sheets will be available to you following the event.
Team winners will receive a plaque for each win.
Solos, Duos and Trios win trophies for each win.
Grand Champions win large Trophies.
Special Awards will also be given for:
• Outstanding Costume
• Overall Solo
• Overall Duo/Trio
• Overall Small Group
• Overall Large Group

About The World of Dance Championships

The World of Dance Championships are held in conjunction with the World of Clogging Championships, a C.C.A. (Clogging Champions of America) event. Event Coordinators are Lynne Ogle of Knoxville, TN and Jeff Driggs of Charleston, WV. Both have more than 25 years of dance teaching and event experience and have worked collectively with the Junior Olympics Dance Committee, The Grand Ole Opry, The Florida Citrus Bowl, Disney Theme Parks, Carnival Cruise Lines and much more. We know that this will be a fun, laid back and spirited dance event with amazingly LOW entry fees and incredible trophies and awards.
Any performer competing in dance competitions takes certain inherent risks. These include, but are not limited to sprains, bruises, pulled muscles, and broken bones. Participation in this competition indicates the acceptance of such risks by performers. Therefore by virtue of entering this event, it is agreed that participants will not hold the coordinators of this event, or its officers, directors officials, staff or employees responsible for injuries sustained or illnesses contracted by them while in attendance and/or participating in any activity related to this Competition. The Midwest Dance Championships and Kings Island Resort are not responsible for personal injury or property loss to either contestants or spectators.
